Throwback Thursday: The Historic Leamington

Unknown

Since his first successful commercial real estate acquisition in 1974 of Eastgate Plaza in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue, Wash., our co-founder and CEO Robert A. Kantor has had consistent, long-term, reliable investment returns. Bob has been at the center of several historical commercial real estate structures including the Leamington.

In the 1980s, Bob was one of the original founders and directors of PPI, which purchased the historic Leamington structure that once graced Oakland’s skyline as a high-class Hotel. The group transformed it into prime office spaces, which they managed, and then sold in 2015.

The Leamington opened its doors in 1926. The luxurious Spanish style hotel was designed by architect W. H. Weeks, included a fully staffed children’s playroom, an information bureau for guests and a $30,000 pipe organ. Opulent social gatherings for wealthy Oakland residents were among the frequent events conducted at the Leamington. While planning her final journey, Amelia Earhart had an office in the Leamington.
